According to the Traffic Act, the compulsory use period of winter tyres has ended, but studded tyres may be used until 30 April, if wintery road and weather conditions continue.
There is no separate order to change the tyres: all drivers make the decision to change the tyres by themselves based on their every-day itinerary. Even if the temperature during the day may be on the plus side and larger roads are free from snow, there is still a danger of slippery roads due to cold temperatures during the night.
Preparing your vehicle for the spring:
- Clean the front window of the vehicle from the inside. In the spring, the sun is low and a window that is dirty from the inside may interfere with driving.
- Check the windscreen wipers. If the windscreen wipers are not cleaning effectively, they need to be replaced.
- Stock up on window washer fluid. Due to the wet weather in spring, it will be used more than usually, which means that additional window washer fluid should also be kept in the vehicle’s luggage compartment.
The use of winter tyres is mandatory in Estonia from December 1 to March 1. Studded tyres are allowed from 15 October to 31 March, but they may be used until 30 April, if wintery road and weather conditions continue.
