What’s that? Why do we use it? What is the penalty?

Legal alcohol limit is the maximum allowed blood alcohol level. In Estonia, it is forbidden to drive a vehicle (incl. a bicycle) after having consumed alcohol.

Criminal intoxication in Estonia starts at a breath alcohol content of 1.5mg/L. An intoxication level that is considered a misdemeanour is 0.2mg/L.

A penalty of 180-380 euros will be imposed when the legal alcohol limit is exceeded, the right to drive can be suspended as an additional penalty. In the case of a more severe intoxication, the penalty imposed can be a financial penalty or a three-year imprisonment.
